Andrew, Mike and Scott will be returning to play a stripped back session on our local radio station, East Coast FM. We’ll be playing some songs from ‘Balance the Light’ and maybe something older and chatting about the record and upcoming gigs on the The Sessions show. Tune in locally in the East Lothian / Edinburgh area of Scotland on 107.6 FM or digitally on Thursday 29th September from 8pm GMT to hear us.
We were delighted to be asked to contribute a song to a new compilation album celebrating all things jangly and 12 string on the fantastic You Are The Cosmos record label in Spain. The album, Twelve String High’, will be available as double vinyl and CD in October which, rather conveniently, coincides with our Spanish gigs listed above. For now, here’s a snippet of the song ‘Even When You’re Gone’, written specifically for this compilation record.
We played our first gig as a 4 piece band in August at the Belladrum Tartan Heart in the Scottish Highlands. As ever, it was a great experience and we were delighted to be on such a varied and interesting bill. While we were there we also recorded a backstage acoustic session for the guys at Netsounds. Hopefully we’ll be able to share this video with you soon. For now, here is some rehearsal footage we recorded in the run up to the event.
A Message from Roy:
It is with both great sadness for what I will surely miss and a note of optimism for what is to come that I tell you I have played my last show with Dropkick.
After the highs of releasing ‘Balance the Light’ (my 5th studio album with Dropkick) culminating in a memorable trip to Germany for the first time as a band, it seemed like the right time to look at what lay ahead.
I will truly miss Andrew, Mike, Ian and Scott who are among my best friends. Like many people, I’ll certainly be looking forward to Dropkick’s future offerings as a four piece (perhaps with the former 5th member dropping in occasionally!!)
Earlier you’ll notice I mentioned optimism for what’s to come! Some of you may be aware of some songs released under the monicker United Wire. Well, I’m happy to tell you there will now be a follow-up United Wire album which I hope to have completed by the end of 2016.
Yours Roy. W
This is obviously very sad news for us to share and we’ll miss Roy hugely in Dropkick and want to publicly thank him for re-joining the band 18 months ago and for playing a huge part in creating ‘Balance the Light’, an album we are very proud of. It’s been great fun playing and singing with our very talented chum throughout his 2nd time in Dropkick and he leaves with all our best wishes.
Here is one of the last gigs we played with Roy in the band from Norderstedt, Germany:
